Hey friends, how are we holding up? With everything going on in the world—and especially the state of American politics—things feel pretty heavy right now, don’t they? I for one, feel a lot of despair. There’s a lot of fear, anxiety, and uncertainty swirling around (rightfully so), and it’s hard to know where to focus or how to find a little peace in all the noise.
But if you’re anything like me, you might be looking for a small moment of comfort, something grounding in all this chaos. For me, that usually involves cheese (because, of course it does). So, let’s take a breath, grab a snack, and dive into this edition of Monger Musings. Whether you’re here to escape for a few minutes, learn something new, or just connect, I’m glad you’re here. Ready? Let’s dig in.
🧀 The family went off-island two weekends ago for the Catboat Association Annual Meeting. While we were on our drive home, we stopped in to East Side Cheese & Provisions in Providence, RI. Amazing selection! Very kind mongers! A dedicated Cheese Shop Visit post is needed! (East Side Cheese Website)
🧀 I am a proud fangirl of the OG Bon Appetit Test Kitchen crew. I’m talking pre-Condé Nast racism reckoning. Anyway! One of my faves, Carla Lalli Music, wrote a piece on her Substack, Food Processing, about the true costs of being a food creator on Youtube and WOW. I’m flabbergasted and I’m loving the Substack platform even more. (Substack, Food Processing)
🧀 I’m working on my presentation for New England Cheese: A Tasting Journey, my class/lecture/talk thing that I’m doing in collaboration with the Martha’s Vineyard Museum. It’s coming up on March 5th! Snag a ticket! I’ve been digging into the island’s dairy history and found this history of Seven Gates Farm very interesting. Maybe I’ll do a deep dive post on this? (MV Museum, Youtube)
🧀 Nominate a cheesy person in your life for Culture Magazine’s HOT LIST. Today is the final day to submit a nomination! (Culture)
🧀 I’ve been pretty good about resisting kid-related purchases / we’ve gotten lucky with a lot of great hand-me-downs. But I’m due to make an investment here and I’m currently debating between a Toddler Helper Tower and a Play Kitchen. Anyone want to weigh in on the pros/cons of either? Help! (Piccalio, IKEA)
